NYMAP Pre-Apprenticeship
The CWE, along with our partners, CALSTART, Bronx Community College and the International Association of Machinists union is offering a 60-hour pre-apprenticeship training course to provide participants who have previous automotive training or experience with the fundamentals of fleet technician work.
The course will include introduction to electric vehicles safety and service, diesel engines, and alternate fuel systems. Graduates of this 2-week prep course will be eligible to apply for the New York Mechanic's Apprenticeship Program's (NYMAP) next recruitment in early July. All participants will be paid a stipend of $20 per hour for the 60-hour course.
The NYMAP is a 3-year NYS registered apprenticeship program that gives young workers the ability to learn while you earn - full time, unionized employment with excellent wages and benefits, on the job training and college credited related instruction. NYMAP employers include UPS, Ryder, Penske, Salem and other major logistics companies. All NYMAP apprentices become members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union.
When: Starts June 10th, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, ending on June 20th
Where: The Patterson Garage at Bronx Community College: 200 Walk of Fame Drive, Bronx NY
As a part of the program, any participants who do not have a Driver's License may be enrolled in driver's training at no cost.
This pre-apprenticeship course is supported by Freight Electrification-as-a-Service for Transformation (FEaST), a CALSTART led program designed to build the foundation for a self-sustaining electric truck market in New York City (https://calstart.org/feast). The instruction and apprenticeship program are provided in partnership with the IAMAW and Bronx Community College.
